Are There Any Health Risks If You Constantly Hold Your Pee?

Holding It In Till You Feel Like You’re Gonna Explode May Not Be The Best Idea

I used to go on long travels via land back in the day because that was a part of my job. I would hold my pee for a very long time and I would only release if I get to a good public restroom.

There are also some cases where I hold pee because I am on a hurry or that I just do not like to use the restroom that is near to me.

Whatever the case may be, I know that the vast majority of people around the world do hold their pee. But, are there any risks of you consistently hold your pee for a long time? Read on to find out.

What is Considered Normal And What Is Considered As Not?

In most cases, people would need to urinate every three to four hours depending on a number of circumstances. If you’ve drank a lot of liquid, then you might want to go to the restroom in a much shorter time.

It is important to note that holding pee differs for everybody. There are some that would require the release of their pee as soon as possible while there are also some that can hold them for a very long time.

As we age, the ability to hold on to our pee diminishes. For instance, people at the age of 50 might have the ability to hold on to their pee for about 8 hours, but the same cannot be said for people who are in ages 60 and above.

Furthermore, if a person happens to have kidney and bladder problems, they might not be able to hold their pee for a long time.

However, if you happen to pee for more than 8 times in a 24-hour period or if you’ve had trips to the bathroom during the wee hours of the night, then you have an overactive bladder.

If you frequently drink coffee or any other caffeinated drinks or if you eat spicy or acidic foods, that can also affect your bladder as well which will result in more trips to the restroom.

If you find that you’re peeing more than 12 times a day, then it is time to see your doctor as it could be an indication of a much more serious problem.

Is it Safe To Hold Your Pee?

There are some instances where you need to hold your pee, probably because there is no restroom around or that you are in the middle of an important event. Whatever the case may be, it is safe to hold your pee. In fact, your body can hold your pee for more than 6 hours if it has to and to top it all off, it is said that the longer you can hold your pee, the better you are at doing Kegel’s, which is great for guys who’re experiencing matters of lasting longer in bed.

A good rule of thumb would be to listen to your body. If it absolutely has to go, then you should make it a point to release your pee. Holding it in for more than a few hours would result in extreme discomfort and it may result in poor quality of life.

So, when there is a need to pee, just release it.
